Wolverhampton City Council has frozen charges for bulky waste collections and sports pitch hire for the next 12 months.
Bulky item collections will remain at £33, white goods collections at £26.50, and clinical waste collections at £13.20. Sports pitch hire and changing facility charges will also stay unchanged for 2026/27.
Why the freeze matters
The council says the decision helps residents dispose of unwanted items safely and conveniently. It also aims to discourage the use of unauthorised waste carriers, who can take payment from households and then dump waste illegally.
Under UK law, residents have a legal duty of care for the correct disposal of their rubbish and can face fines or prosecution if it is dumped — even if someone else was paid to take it.
Supporting sport and health
Councillor Qaiser Azeem, cabinet member for resident services at City of Wolverhampton Council, said the freeze on sports pitch hire helps keep access to sport and physical activity affordable for adults and children across the city.
Garden waste already frozen
The bulky waste charge freeze follows an earlier announcement of a three-year price freeze for garden waste collections, which will remain at £55 — equivalent to £2.61 per collection — until 2029.
