Wolverhampton City Council is marking World Mental Health Day with a series of free events across the city from 10 to 16 October 2026. The theme this year is 'Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change', emphasising the importance of listening to people's mental health experiences and ensuring everyone feels supported.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said the day is an opportunity to remind people that help is available and that no one should struggle alone. He encouraged residents to check in with one another, listen without judgement and talk openly about mental health.

"Taking time to listen, showing empathy and simply being there for a person can make a real difference," Councillor Ahmed said. "You don't need to be an expert to help someone."

Events taking place across Wolverhampton

The Hope Remains: World Mental Health Day Reflective Service will be held at St Peter's Collegiate Church on Saturday 10 October. The free event is organised by Violet Project CIO and the Wolverhampton Suicide Prevention Stakeholder Forum Charitable Trust. Doors open at 3.30pm, with the service running from 4pm to 5pm, followed by information stalls and refreshments.

Tea and Talk sessions are being held at Central Library on Friday 9 October from 10.30am to 12pm, and at Bilston Library on Saturday 10 October from 10am to 12pm. These relaxed sessions offer a chance to chat, meet new people and learn about local support services.

Care Jar: A Creative Pause for Carers takes place on Friday 16 October at Wolverhampton railway station from 12pm to 2pm. The free session allows carers to relax, be creative and connect with others while focusing on their own wellbeing. Tickets can be booked at eventbrite.

World Mental Health Day coincides with World Homeless Day, recognising the close links between mental wellbeing, homelessness and access to support services.
