Wolverhampton City Council's Suicide Prevention Stakeholder Forum is supporting the international World Suicide Prevention Day campaign in 2026, encouraging residents to pause, check in, and support one another.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said the campaign aims to shift from silence and stigma to openness and empathy. "Changing the narrative on suicide means shifting from silence and stigma to openness, empathy, and support – encouraging honest conversations that break down barriers and foster understanding," he said.

The council's message emphasises that suicidal thoughts are signs of deep distress and calls for non-judgmental listening and compassion. "If you or someone you know requires support, don't suffer in silence – help is out there," Councillor Ahmed added.
