Wolverhampton City Council's Ernest Bold service has been celebrated for achieving the highest possible rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The service, which provides overnight short break support for adults with learning disabilities, was rated Outstanding overall earlier this year.

An event was held to recognise the dedication, compassion and professionalism of the team. Guests included people using the service, their families, carers, colleagues and partner organisations. Pupils from nearby Stowlawn Primary School performed a special dance as part of the celebrations, and a commemorative poster marking the Outstanding achievement was unveiled.

What the CQC inspection found

The CQC awarded Ernest Bold Outstanding ratings for the Caring and Well-led inspection areas, and Good ratings for Safe, Effective and Responsive. Inspectors praised the exceptional, person-centred and proactive support provided by staff. They highlighted how the service promotes independence, improves quality of life and delivers positive outcomes for people using it. Inspectors also recognised the strong culture within the team and the leadership that underpins its success.

What the service does

Ernest Bold provides overnight short break support for adults with learning disabilities and supports families and carers across Wolverhampton. The service helps adults develop independence, build confidence and enjoy opportunities and experiences that matter to them, while also providing valuable respite for families and carers.

Councillor Linda Leach, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: "Achieving an Outstanding rating is a remarkable accomplishment and one that everyone connected with Ernest Bold should be incredibly proud of. The service makes a real difference to people's lives every day."

She added: "This Outstanding rating reflects the dedication of the entire team and the strong relationships they have built with the people they support."
