Four new market stalls have been installed on Wednesfield High Street, with traders set to begin operating from them on Tuesday 18 August. The stalls replace outdated equipment previously in use.

The new stalls are purpose-built with individual lighting and internal power sources — features absent from the old stalls. They are designed to provide a modern and consistent appearance for the market while improving infrastructure for traders and supporting future events and activities on the High Street.

Further stalls are being manufactured and will be installed over the coming weeks.

Funding and Support

The majority of funding for the market stalls has been secured from the Government's Pride in Place Impact Fund, which supports community needs.

City of Wolverhampton Council is carrying out major works on the town centre, with completion expected in November.

Trader and Council Response

Jon Paul Allen, a Wednesfield Market trader who operates a key cutting and shoe repair business, said: "I'd like to thank the council for the new market stalls and the hard work to help get them. The traders are looking forward to using stalls that are more fit for purpose and have easily accessible power and individual lighting, which will help a lot. The future of Wednesfield Market is bright."

Councillor Qaiser Azeem, Cabinet Member for Resident Services at City of Wolverhampton Council, said the new stalls would enhance the High Street's appearance and boost the customer experience. "The finished improvement scheme will bring the vibrancy back to Wednesfield High Street and surrounding areas, make it a more welcoming place for all and will boost the local economy," he added.

Sureena Brackenridge, Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton North, said the investment responds to trader requests for better market stalls and forms part of wider plans to strengthen Wednesfield village and increase footfall.

The High Street improvement works follow the council securing Government funding for the scheme and consultation with the public and traders.
