Wolverhampton residents eligible for winter protection can now access free seasonal flu vaccinations, alongside jabs against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Covid-19.
The City of Wolverhampton Council is promoting the three vaccination programmes, which are available through GP practices and participating pharmacies across the city.
Who can get the flu vaccine
Free flu vaccination is available to pregnant women, children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2026, school-aged children from Reception to Year 11 (offered in school), people aged 65 and over, people aged 6 months to under 65 with certain long-term health conditions, people living with someone who has a weakened immune system, people sleeping rough or living in hostels or shelters, care home residents, carers, and frontline health and social care workers.
Flu can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, particularly for older people, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions.
RSV vaccination eligibility
RSV is a common respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in babies and older adults. Free RSV vaccination is available to pregnant women from 28 weeks of pregnancy, people aged 75 and over who have not previously received an RSV vaccination, people aged 65 to 74 with a long-term lung condition or a weakened immune system, and older adults living in a care home who have not previously had the vaccine.
Covid-19 autumn vaccine
The autumn Covid-19 vaccine is available to people aged 75 and over (including those turning 75 by 31 January 2027), older adults living in a care home, and people aged 6 months to 74 years with a weakened immune system.
How to book
Eligible residents will usually be contacted by their GP practice, NHS service or other healthcare provider. People who are unsure whether they qualify should speak to their GP practice, pharmacist or midwife, or visit the NHS Winter vaccinations and winter health webpage for further information.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community at the City of Wolverhampton Council, said: "Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious illness and help people stay well throughout the colder months. By protecting yourself, you can also help protect your loved ones and reduce pressure on local health and care services over the winter period."
Residents may be eligible for more than one vaccine and should check their eligibility and book appointments as soon as possible.
