Full resurfacing work is taking place on Old Heath Road in Wolverhampton as part of the city council's highway maintenance programme. The work follows surface dressing and footpath renewal already completed on the street.
Road closures and access
Night-time resurfacing will close Old Heath Road from its junction with Willenhall Road to outside 114 Old Heath Road between 7pm and 5am. The closures will continue until Wednesday 29 July, excluding weekends. Access and exit will be maintained where safe to do so. Road relining will follow the resurfacing work.
Earlier work and co-ordination
Surface dressing, which is designed to prevent potholes, has already been completed on parts of Old Heath Road along with re-lining. Footpaths on the street have also been recently renewed. Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, Cabinet Member for City Transport, said different types of work are delivered by separate contractors, which is why they have been completed at different times, but all works are co-ordinated.
"Old Heath Road was identified and prioritised in our highway maintenance programme for treatment, approved by cabinet earlier this year," Councillor Gakhal said. "Very soon, Old Heath Road — both carriageway and footways — will be looking much improved."
Wider investment
More resurfacing will take place across Wolverhampton over the coming weeks as part of the council's £10m investment in highways for 2026/27. Councillor Gakhal noted that Wolverhampton has more than 480 miles of road to maintain and the council must follow a targeted, planned approach to deliver long-term improvements using resurfacing, surface dressing and other treatments to reduce urgent repairs required on roads.
