Wolverhampton City Council is recruiting volunteers to join its Independent Education Appeal Panel.
The panel hears appeals from parents who have been refused a place for their child at their preferred school. It also reviews decisions around the exclusion of pupils.
What the role involves
Panel members read case papers before hearings, actively participate in appeal proceedings, and decide whether to uphold or dismiss appeals.
Full training will be provided, including the opportunity to observe a hearing. Although the role is voluntary, panel members can claim for expenses.
Who is wanted
Wolverhampton City Council is looking for people from all walks of life with different experiences and skills who reflect the city's diverse population and can ensure the panel is inclusive and representative.
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said the role can make a real difference in the lives of Wolverhampton's children and young people.
The council welcomes applications from students, graduates, retired professionals, and professionals looking to retire soon.
