Action4Independence, based on Albert Road in Wolverhampton, has been recognised for its work promoting sport and physical activity among people with disabilities.
The day service supports over 60 adults with a learning disability or living with dementia. It offers a range of day opportunities designed to promote independence, health and wellbeing, while helping people maintain connections with their communities.
Award Recognition
Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis Club recently awarded Action4Independence in recognition of its commitment to greater access to sport. The award recognised the team's efforts to support people with care and support needs to access the club, adapt activities to meet individual needs, and ensure sport is accessible to everyone.
Council Visit
Councillor Leach toured the facilities, met staff and people with care and support needs, and discussed opportunities to strengthen links with community organisations, including Bilston Lions and its Dementia Café. People using the service expressed interest in attending future Dementia Café sessions.
Councillor Leach said: "I was absolutely delighted to visit Action4Independence. It is a fantastic facility, and what really stood out to me was how engaged the staff are with the people they support. You can see how passionate they are about helping them get the most out of every day."
The councillor participated in exercises to music during the visit and noted seeing familiar faces from a previous visit several years ago.
