Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet will vote next week on ú16.4 million in funding for a new purpose-built special school designed to meet growing demand for specialist places for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Cabinet meeting takes place on Wednesday 22 July 2026. If approved, the investment would enable the relocation and expansion of Broadmeadow Special School from its current site at West Park.
New School Details
The new school would be built on the site of the council's former Priory Green offices in Pendeford, which are currently being decommissioned.
Capacity would increase from 75 to 120 places. The age range would extend from 3 to 11 years to 3 to 19 years, creating a through-school for older young people.
Next Steps
Cabinet will be asked to approve a funding agreement with Central Learning Partnership Trust and the transfer and leasing arrangements needed for the development. The Trust is also making a significant financial contribution to the project.
A planning application from the Trust and architects Astley Partnership is expected to be determined by the council in the coming weeks. The Department for Education must also grant final approval before the expansion can proceed.
