Wolverhampton City Council has launched a public consultation on a new local plan that will guide where development takes place in the city up to 2045. The consultation runs until 8 September 2026 and invites residents and stakeholders to feedback on the plan's scope, supporting evidence, and how the community should be involved in its preparation.
The council is required to begin work on the new plan this year following recent changes to national planning rules. The plan will identify environmental areas to protect and enhance, sites for housing and employment development, key transport schemes, and policies for design and infrastructure.

People can complete an online survey or view full consultation documents at Wolverhampton Plan. Paper copies of the main document and representation forms are available at the Civic Centre and Wolverhampton Central Library.

What happens next
After the consultation closes, the Wolverhampton Plan will follow a statutory 34-month preparation timetable. The public will have two further opportunities to comment, and the plan will undergo a public examination before adoption in 2029.
City of Wolverhampton Council Leader Councillor Stephen Simkins said: "It remains critical to have a local plan in place to provide certainty for our communities and support regeneration and investment in our city. I would urge people to get involved and have their say."
